The 22nd Century 2103 Amos Enfield, Sr. is born in New York City, North America. His family will emigrate to Mars when he is age 15, he will get his Martian citizenship in 2123 and get elected to the Martian council as a representative from Amazonis Planetia in 2126. He marries Marie Spinrad in 2127 and the couple has a son, Amos, Jr. in 2129. Martian historical accounts. 2105 Eight women brutally knifed to death by an unknown assailant in the Martian Colonies. This is later found to be the same entity that committed several murders on planet Argelius II in 2267. "Wolf in the Fold." [TOS] Date given by library computer during Scotty's trial on board the Enterprise. Since we have given Mars its independence from Earth, we should assume that the term "Martian Colonies" is inaccurate. DavKar DaKar, a musician, was born on Trill, he is the fourth host. Date is conjecture. ["The Six of Me"]. 2129 Amos Enfield, Jr. is born in the city of Helium on Mars. He is elected to the Martian Council as Liaison to Earth, a post he will hold for life. He will eventually marry Nancy Bloch and the couple will have a son, Edward (2164) and a daughter, Amy (2166). His family's political influence will help keep Mars out of the Federation for over 80 years. Martian historical accounts. 2136 Mars starts terraforming trials. They will eventually get the project done in the late 24th century. About 145 years before "For the Good of the Service." Aristotle G. Enfield is court-martialed after the Slot incident and is ordered to Mars to supervise Utopia Planetia for Starfleet, a post he will hold for 11 years. He is co-opted by The Martian Council to consult on the final phase of the project. Note: I wanted to have Ari leave Starfleet for good and return at the behest of Admiral Serek, but Utopia Planetia is a) an engineering assignment (Ari was an engineer), b) he'll be out of the command loop long enough for the Klingons to forget he exists and c) it is on Mars. This helps Ari stay in Starfleet continuously for 128 years. 2144 Mars launches the first five of its Herschel-class freighters. They would be the first of a large Merchant Marine and space security force that would last until some of it is integrated into Starfleet early in the 23rd century. Martian historical accounts. 2153 The Herschel-class freighter MS Olympus Mons disappears in a dark matter depression near the orbit of Pluto during a rescue mission. It is not heard of again for over 100 years. 119 years before the "The Lost Command." 2161 United Federation of Planets incorporated. Starfleet established with a charter "to boldly go where no man has gone before." The Federation is governed by a Council, located in the city of San Francisco on Earth, and the Federation council president's office is located in the city of Paris. The Constitution of the Federation includes important protections of individual rights including the Seventh Guarantee, protecting citizens against self-incrimination. "The Outcast." Deanna Troi mentions that the Federation was founded in 2161. The Starfleet Academy emblem in "The First Duty" also gives this as the year in which the Academy was established. The Federation Council chambers were established as being in San Francisco in Star Trek lV: The Voyage Home. The Federation president's office is seen in Star Trek Vl: The Undiscovered Country. The view out the window shows the Eiffel Tower and the city of Paris. The Seventh Guarantee established in "The Drumhead." It would take the Red Planet over 80 years to sign as a full member, although Mars would be given full protectorate status and they would allow Utopia Planetia to be used by Starfleet as a ship design and assembly facility. Historical accounts. Amos Enfield, jr. (Ari's great grandfather) was instrumental in keeping Mars a "free and independent planet" and started an anti-Federation coalition that would become almost unbreakable. Ari's grandfather Edward and finally his father, Amos III, carried on this political tradition. Apparently they didnt believe guarantees written into the Federation Charter or the Prime Directive of Starfleet. Ari's joining Starfleet caused a familial rift that never healed. Starbase 13 is established as part of the new Starfleet. A total of 15 starbases are established to begin exploration to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Approximately 108 years before Starbase 13s destruction by the Klingons. It will be rebuilt and recommissioned Starbase 134. 2164 Edward Enfield is born in the city of Helium. He will eventually be appointed the Martian Ambassador to the Federation in 2193; a good way to keep Mars out of the UFP (or so he thinks). He marries Alice Norton in 2190. The couple has a daughter, Millicent (in 2192), and two sons, Amos III (in 2193) and Micah (in 2197). Martian historical accounts. Micah Enfield will marry Diane Clark and go to Earth for a short time. The couple will have a son (Alexander), and a daughter (Theresa). Micah will return to Mars shortly after his divorce from Diane and will act as Ari's surrogate father as Amos III becomes more and more despondent about Mars joining the Federation and his familial responsibilities become less important. 2166 The Romulan Star Empire, humiliated by their defeat at the hands of the forces of Earth, decide to turn their attention to another spacefaring enemy of theirs, the Klingons. Devising a biogenic weapon, they unleash it upon the Klingon homeworld and colonies in an effort to wipe out the entire Klingon race. However, the biogenic weapon does not kill the Klingons, but rather mutates them into a more human-looking form. So insidious is this biogenic weapon that Klingon scientists fail to find the cause of their mutation for over a century. Over a century before "Destiny" 2167 Shikiku Onada is born at the family homestead near Agarashima, Japan. She will become the first female Master of Onada in the clan's history, and she will be the grandmother of Francisco Cumberland, who himself will attain the title of Master. A century before "White Tiger," as Francisco Cumberland returns to the Onada homestead to celebrate his grandmother's osseika-hai ("century day") in 2267. 2193 Amos Enfield III is born in the city of Helium on Mars. He will be elected Governor of Amazonis Planetia in 2235 and makes an unsuccessful bid for the Martian Presidency in 2242 (his family's position on keeping Mars out of the Federation has become unpopular). He meets Jennifer O'Herlihy at college and they marry. They have one son, Aristotle (2228). Biography of Aristotle G. Enfield. 2195 The Martian government approves a program that will allow genetically enhanced humans to be created to help in terraforming the Red Planet. It is thought that people who can live in the atmosphere without domes and pressure suits would facilitate the process. The program is kept secret from the Federation for over 60 years. Martian historical accounts. Ari and five others were the product of the Martian Eugenics program and some thought the subjects of the experiment might develop megalomania as a consequence of being enhanced, however, they were proof of what a solid upbringing could do. Note: Keeping Mars out of the UFP for so long accomplishes the genetic program without direct repercussions to the people involved. The Federation does find out, however, and the result will be seen later. 2196 The annual Federation "Babel" conference begins. Among the delegation from Earth is Shikiku Onada, a diplomatic attaché, and Professor Joseph Cumberland, a biochemist who is presenting a technical paper on biomemetics. During the conference, a group of unknown aliens seizes the conference grounds and seals off the perimeter. Shikiku, with Joseph's aid, is able to dispatch the terrorists. Investigations into the aliens origins prove inconclusive. Soon after the conference, Shikiku and Joseph fall in love and decide to marry. The Terran Ambassador, in gratitude for their efforts, gives them a beautiful cut-glass rainbow bird as a wedding present. "The Fallen Tower." Verbal account given by Francisco Cumberland, from a story told to him by his grandmother in his youth. |
