The 23rd Century 2214 April 29. Walter James Kaye is born in San Luis Obispo, California, North America. He will one day be the Starfleet Inspector General, Federation Ambassador to the Babel Conference, and the Federation President. Historical accounts. Now San Luis Obispo is known for three landmarks: The Madonna Inn, The Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and the birthplace of Walt Kaye. 2216 Timothy Eliot Stokes is born in Bangor, North America on Earth. He will eventually become a Starfleet captain, and serve as a mentor to a young Francisco Cumberland. Date is conjecture. Stokes is established as being a contemporary of Jake Caffey in "The Only Glory". 2218 Amos Enfield III and Jennifer O'Herlihy meet at university and are married in a quiet ceremony in Helium at the base of Olympus Mons two years later. In 2226 they are approached by the Martian council to be one of the couples who will carry a genetically enhanced human able to live in the hostile Martian environment. They agree, although Jennifer is not enamored of the idea. Verbal accounts. 2228 April 29. Aristotle Galileo Enfield is born in a bio facility in the city of Helium. He is then moved to an observation center in Lowell City located in the Syria Planum to see if he will survive. He and six others do, although the mothers and fathers of the others are now wary of the motives of the government. Jennifer is also suspicious, however, it is Amos III who has complete confidence in the plan. Note: The real story of the birth of Ari and the other five eugenics subjects was kept off the books until the program was exposed in 2260. It was felt by some of the pro-Federation representatives that if the UFP ever found out what was going on, they would never get Mars into the Federation. The pro-Federation people went out of their way, therefore, to keep the eugenics program covered up. 2230 Jake Caffey is born in San Diego, California, North America, to Rear Admiral Jason Caffey [Chief of Starbase Operations-Ret.] and his wife Laura. Another service brat, in a long family line of service brats, dating back to the late 20th Century. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. Alexander Enfield is born in Boulder, Colorado, North America. He is the son of Micah and Diane Enfield. Biography of Alexander Enfield. Alex is Ari's cousin and his parents eventually divorce. Note: Micah Torrance is the name of the Marshall played by Paul Fixx on "The Rifleman." Fixx played the part of Dr. Mark Piper, CMO on the Enterprise during "Where No Man Has Gone Before." 2233 Theresa Jane Enfield is born in Boulder, Colorado, North America. She will go into Starfleet service, eventually becoming Commandant of the Command School. Biography and service record of Theresa Enfield. Note: Naturally, Terry Enfield is a non-player character, unless we can find someone to portray her. 2235 The bulk of the Martian Operating Forces ships are transferred to Starfleet service. Historical Accounts. The pro-Federation camp on Mars is now starting to build and this act is the first of many steps to getting Mars in the Federation. Serek is born on ShiKahr on Vulcan Assuming that he was 35 when he assumed command of the Intrepid II. 2236 Walter Kaye graduates from Starfleet Academy summa cum laude and is promoted to the rank of Ensign. Biography and service record of Walter Kaye. Anti-Federation terrorists blow up the engine nacelles of a Starfleet ship being constructed at Utopia Planetia. This act will force the Martian Council to ask for more Starfleet security. Historical accounts. This desperate act is seen as the beginning of the end of the anti-Federation coalition. 2237 Ezra John Christopher is born on Kent, fourth planet of Alpha Centauri B, in the town of Christopher's Landing. He is the descendant of Shaun Geoffrey Christopher, commander of the first manned mission to Saturn, and Geoffrey Kinnison Christopher, the pioneer of the Alpha Centauri system. Date is conjecture, but Starfleet records do establish that Christopher is at least two years older than Francisco Cumberland. 2239 Francisco Cumberland is born in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. Date is conjecture. Assumes that Cumberland is thirty-one when he assumes command of the U.S.S. Hannibal. "Space Case" 2241 Micah Enfield divorces his wife and returns to Mars on a research grant. It is at this time that he will tell Aristotle Enfield to go his own way. Biography of Alexander Enfield. 2242 The Saladin-class U.S.S. Hannibal is commissioned at the San Francisco Fleet Yards, Earth. Commanding its first three-year mission is Captain George Banacek, a brilliant though unorthodox officer whose oft-quoted signature line "I love it when a plan comes together" has more than a touch of irony, given the situation, Account taken from Starfleet records, reinforced by the quotation given on the Nebula-class Hannibal's dedication plaque from Capt. Banacek. He is, of course, named in honor of the late actor George Peppard, who starred in both Banacek and The A-Team (from where the names "Hannibal" and "Murdock" are linked.) ["Space Case, Methuselah's Child"] 2243 Mars signs as a full, voting member of the United Federation of Planets. Martian history. There were many who opposed the move to make Mars a member of the Federation, including almost four generations of Enfields. However, the momentum had spread and it was almost impossible to deny that Mars would need more from Earth than being a Federation protectorate had to offer. Aristotle Enfield signs on with a Merchant Ship, the MS Porter. It is hard work, but he learns a lot. Eighteen months before Ari signs on with Starfleet. Ari quit college at ZCU to sign on with the Porter. The genetic engineering had so enhanced his mental capacity that he got an early out from that institution. 2245 June 24. Aristotle Enfield buys his service contract from the Mars Merchant service and the MS Porter drops him off at Starbase 27. He enlists as a trainee and is immediately put into recruit training, which takes approximately 2 months. Ari and his father will never speak again. Biography and service record of Aristotle G. Enfield. Note: Remember, this was written back in 1978 and I thought that Starfleet was a little more wild and woolly. Nowadays, Ari would take enlisted training at The Academy. 2246 Jake Caffey enrolls in Starfleet Academy. Commander Jason Caffey (Jake's father) was commanding officer of the U.S.S. SALADIN, NCC-500 at this time. Biography of Jake Caffey. 2250 Jake Caffey graduates from Starfleet Academy, 1st in his class, is promoted to Ensign, and is assigned as helmsman to the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE, NCC-1701 under the command of Captain Robert April. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. 2252 Alexander Enfield graduates from Starfleet Academy in the top ten of his class and is promoted to the rank of Ensign. Biography and service record of Alexander Enfield. 2253 Kiara DaKar is born on Trill. Besides being DaKar's fifth host, she eventually has a distinguished career in Starfleet. Date is conjecture, assuming that Kiara was at least 22 Standard years of age when she was an ensign on the original Hannibal. "Methuselah's Child" Sr. Chief Petty Officer Aristotle Enfield is wounded in action defending the Prentaries Colony. He is given a commendation, commissioned a midshipman and attends Officers Candidate School. Biography and service record of Aristotle G. Enfield. 2254 The Four Years' War between the Federation and the Klingon Empire begins with the Battle of Axanar. From historical accounts of the Battle of Axanar, also shown in flashback ["The Only Glory"]. The Four Years' War is one of those events long held in speculation by fan fiction prior to the production of Star Trek: The Next Generation. We chose to include it in our timeline as it does provide a basis for the Federation-Klingon antipathy prevalent in galactic politics for the next forty years. It would seem to contradict Carol Marcus' statement that "Starfleet has kept the peace for a hundred years" in Star Trek II, but we are prepared to classify that statement as apocryphal. More fun this way. 2255 Ensign Aristotle G. Enfield distinguishes himself on the U.S.S. Hermes as an engineer and wins his Starfleet Engineering Commendation-Class of Excellence medal. Biography and service record of Aristotle Enfield. 2256 Commander Walter Kaye is wounded when his command, Epsilon 15 is attacked by Klingon forces bent on destroying it as an important listening post. They come close but the Enterprise under Captain Pike routes the Klingons in a surprise engagement. Enterprise must return to space dock for a year of refit work. Biography and service record of Walter Kaye. According to the Chronology, Enterprise returns to space dock at the end of 2256 anyway, so why not with a bang? Theresa Enfield graduates summa cum laude from Starfleet Academy. She is made an instructor and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.) Biography and service record of Theresa Enfield. Note: I feel there is adequate precedence for this. In "Where No Man Has Gone Before" Gary Mitchell says "Watch out for Lt. Kirk " The postulation is that Kirk just got out of the Academy and did so well, he was made an instructor, possibly a Lt. (j.g.) In "Court Martial" it is mentioned that Kirk was posted to the U.S.S. Republic, which was Starfleet's training vessel, and he held the rank of Lieutenant. I assume this was before he was posted to the Farragut under Captain Garrovick. 2258 In rapid succession, the Battle of Donatu V follows the Battle of Delgon-R. Among those decorated for heroism in these conflicts is the crew of the Starship Republic, including Lieutenant (j.g.) Eliot Stokes and Ensign Jake Caffey. Later that same year, the Axanar Peace Mission, in which both Stokes and Caffey participate, signals the end of the Four Years' War. "The Only Glory" 2260 Starfleet Academy Cadet Francisco Cumberland, a member of Antares Squadron, refuses to participate in a highly hazardous space-flying maneuver called a Kolvoord Starburst. Based on information given him by his friend, sciences cadet Max Cochrane, he warns his teammates that the ignited plasma will burn too fast and their ships will be destroyed. His teammates, instead of heeding his advice, forcibly remove Cumberland from the team. Although he has the opportunity to tell the Academy superintendent that his former teammates are planning the Starburst, he declines to do so. When the Squadron, having replaced Cumberland with another cadet, attempt the Starburst, all five ships are destroyed, with no survivors. The Academy bans the maneuver, and it is not attempted again for over a century. Cumberland keeps his silence for many years. Starfleet Academy records. "For the Record" and "The First Duty" [TNG] Someone leaks to the media that Mars had a eugenics program. The Federation takes strong action, censuring Mars in the Council for five standard years. Aristotle G. Enfield is exposed as one of the subjects of the program and is put in front of a Starfleet Board of Inquiry as regards his current status. He is absolved of all wrong doing in the eugenics incident, as he was modified in vitro and not after the fact. Conjecture. I feel there are several sets of circumstances that could have led to this. Ari's father certainly could have leaked it to further his political career or Starfleet could have taken the many years of medical data regarding Ari and used it to jump to the conclusion that there was some kind of genetic tampering going on. 2261 Francisco Cumberland graduates valedictorian of his Starfleet Academy class. He is soon assigned as junior helmsman on the Bonhomme Richard-class U.S.S. Saratoga, where his old instructor Eliot Stokes is now captain. "Space Case" 2262 A shortage in officers of Flag Rank forces Starfleet Command to early promote some Captains and long time in grade Commanders to Fleet Captain, Commodore and Rear Admiral. Fleet Captain and Commodore are made permanent instead of wartime ranks and will survive well into the 24th century until the name Commodore is changed to One Star Admiral. There is precedence for this in the current U.S. Navy. Several Captains and Commanders were early promoted in mid 1983 and Commodore was made a permanent rank. The complaint came from the other branches of the service that while there was an O-7 Rank (one star [Brigadier] General) there was no comparable rank for the Navy, all the while the promoted naval officers were getting the analogous raise in pay. I use the above to explain Walt Kaye's meteoric rise in rank and answer the Fleet Captain question. For his distinguished service to the Federation during the Four Years' War, Fleet Captain Walter Kaye is promoted to Rear Admiral and is made The Starfleet Deputy Inspector General. Biography and service record of Walter Kaye. 2263 Lieutenant Commander Serek serves on board the original U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701 under Captain Christopher Pike, in the last year before relinquishing command to Captain James T. Kirk. He served as Assistant Chief Science Officer under Commander Spock. "Serek" 2265 Jake Caffey is promoted to Captain, and assumes command the U.S.S. Constitution, NCC-1700 (his first command). Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey 2267 "The White Tiger." Stardate 6712.24. Francisco Cumberland takes some accumulated leave time during his tenure as a Starfleet records officer at Starbase 11 to visit his grandmother Shikiku on Earth for her one-hundredth birthday. During his visit, the family compound is attacked by a group of rogue Starfleet officers for reasons unclear. Nevertheless, Cumberland, his grandmother (who is the Master of Onada) and several "night tigers" (household warriors) are able to run them off. Investigating the apparent stronghold on the Moon, Cumberland and the Master find Kaiser Muldoon, a descendant of one of the original genetic "supermen" from the 1990s Eugenics Wars, who had not escaped with Khan Singh yet had managed to avoid capture. Muldoon, knowing that Cumberland is a records officer, tries to force him to reveal the location that Singh and his followers were exiled following their abortive hijacking of the Starship Enterprise ("Space Seed" [TOS]). After being held captive, and subsequently escaping, Cumberland and his grandmother defeated the conspirators, the young Starfleet officer personally defeating Muldoon despite the greater physical strength of the genetic mutant. This story, told in flashback, reveals much of the history of the House of Onada, as well as Cumberland's role in the "destroyer" legend. Commander Serek serves on board the U.S.S. Constellation and the U.S.S. Intrepid and survives both ships. "Serek." Shortly before "The Doomsday Machine" (the Constellation was destroyed at system L-370 by the planet killer) and several months before "The Immunity Syndrome" (the Intrepid was decimated by the space-going ameba in the Gamma 7-A system). Note: This accounts for either Serek's amazing luck or incredible timing as a Starfleet Officer. Lieutenant Francisco Cumberland is assigned as chief helmsman aboard the transport/tug Copernicus. His commanding officer is Lester Boganville, a somewhat unconventional captain who, while stating that "a hero ain't nothin' but a sandwich," nevertheless encourages Cumberland to seek his own command someday. "Heroes." Date is conjecture, more than a year before the events depicted in flashback. 2268 Commander Serek serves on board the U.S.S. Excalibur and the U.S.S Defiant. See previous entry. Lieutenant Cmdr. Aristotle Enfield is awarded the Z-Magnees prize for his design of an improved anti-matter injector system. This is the first time the offspring of a previous winner has won the prize and the new design will be adopted in all future Starfleet ships. The starship U.S.S. Copernicus is ambushed and severely damaged in what is apparently an unprovoked attack by a Tholian fleet. Captain Boganville is killed along with the bridge crew. Lt. Cumberland acts quickly to save the ship, an action that will subsequently earn him an executive officer position. Shown in flashback in "Heroes." Francisco Cumberland is promoted to Lieutenant Commander and is given the assignment of executive officer aboard the scout ship Pegasus. Between the events shown in "Heroes" and the Kzinti incident shown in "Space Case." 2269 Alexander Enfield is promoted to Captain and sent to command school. He is being groomed to command a new Constitution Class starship. One year before Alex is given command of the Bellatrix. While on a reconnaissance mission on a distant planet, Lt. Commander Francisco Cumberland is captured and severely injured by a group of Kzinti. Although Starfleet personnel subsequently retrieve him, his injuries force him to undergo an experimental neural-regeneration treatment. During the period that he is comatose because of this treatment, Cumberland's grandmother dies. Inexplicably, his grandmother communicates with Cumberland at the moment of her death, telling him that he is the Master of Onada now, and that the prophecy of his becoming the Destroyer will someday be fulfilled. After his recovery, Cumberland is promoted to commander, and is given command of the destroyer Hannibal. A Klingon attack force destroys Starbase 13. Historical accounts. Starbase 13 would eventually be rebuilt and recommissioned Starbase 134 The U.S.S. Constitution returns home after its initial five-year mission. Since it is intact and most of the original crew is still alive, this makes it the second ship to do so after the Enterprise under James Kirk. Biography of Jake Caffey 2270 "Convergence." Stardate 7001.6 Commodore Jake Caffey assumes command of the U.S.S Star League, Captain Serek assumes command of the U.S.S Intrepid II, and Commander Francisco H. Cumberland assumes command of the U.S.S. Hannibal; a day later, Captain Alexander Enfield assumes command of the U.S.S. Bellatrix from the San Francisco Ship Yards. Aristotle Enfield reports on board the Intrepid II, meets Capt. Serek and immediately dislikes him. As the story progresses, Enfield finds that Serek isn't so bad after all and they develop a kinship over time. The four ships are almost immediately assigned to investigate a fleet of Klingon ships massing near the Klingon-Romulan border. Starfleet Command fears that the Klingon-Romulan Alliance of several years past may be building to a new level, culminating in a joint attack on the Federation. Commodore Caffey is given orders to determine what the situation is, and if necessary to engage the fleet, giving the rest of Starfleet time to set up defenses for the Federation homeworlds. Although much of the captains' first meeting is told in "Space Case" and "Serek," this is the actual first mission of the Tactical Squadron. "Destiny." Stardate 7001.15. The Tactical Squadron, led by Commodore Caffey, arrives at the Klingon-Romulan border. There, they learn that the Klingons are not allying with the Romulans but are in fact about to attack them, in retaliation for a biogenic weapon that the Romulans unleashed on them a century ago. Caffey is able to stall the Klingons while the Intrepid II and the Bellatrix go into Romulan space, to secure a sample of the biogenic weapon used in an effort to find an antidote that will reverse its mutagenic effect. Captains Serek and Enfield are successful in finding a reagent, but a small faction of Klingon ships breaks away from the main fleet in order to destroy the Romulan colony nearest the border. Caffey and Commander Cumberland are able to prevent this destruction, though the Klingons still want to erase the dishonor that the Romulans wrought upon them. The four captains agree, on behalf of the Federation, to suppress any visual records of what the Klingons looked like during this period, so that future generations will not remember that they did not look as they would after reversing the biogenic weapon's effect. Granted, this is one of the more convoluted scenarios about why Klingons changed between TOS and the first movie. On the other hand, it explains (a) why O'Brien and Bashir didn't recognize those Klingons on Station K7 in "Trials and Tribble-ations" (DS9) and (b) what happened to make the Klingons and Romulans go from being pseudo-allies to "blood enemies" for the last hundred years. Upon the completion of this mission, Starfleet decides that this particular group of ships and captains works fairly well, despite differences in outlook and temperament. For the next several years, the Tactical Squadron led by Commodore Caffey will assemble on certain occasions in response to a number of crises, though for the most part they will function as individual vessels. Following "Destiny." Following a minor refit at Earth's main spacedock, the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk embarks upon another five-year mission. Among the additions to his regular bridge crew are Lt. Arex of Edo and Lt. M'Ress of Cait. This will be Kirk's last five-year mission before accepting a promotion to the rank of admiral in 2275. Date is conjecture, which seemingly contradicts the date of 2271 for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. However, the Okudas concede that their date was conjecture as well. We feel that given the apparent ages of the crew as shown in that film, that far more than "two and a half years" had gone by since the days of the Original Series. At least this way, there is room to stick the missions shown in the Animated Series. Commodore Henry Gunn assumes command of the newly re-christened Starbase 134 after serving as the First Officer of Starbase 13. Captain Helen Oxford, M.D., serves as his Chief Medical Officer Stardate 7008.13 Soshek and T'Prayne are born to Captain Serek and Lt. Commander T'Prana on the planet Vulcan in the city of ShiKahr. Soshek was born a minute earlier than his sister. "Serek" and family records. 2271 "Heroes." Stardate 7110.12. Admiral Walter Kaye summons Commander Francisco Cumberland to Starbase 134 as part of an inquiry into the Copernicus' attack by the Tholians. Evidence has been uncovered that Captain Lester Boganville was in covert communications with the Tholian Assembly, in violation of Starfleet regulations. Cumberland, in setting out to clear Boganville's name, finds that the Copernicus' first officer, Henry Durban, presumed deceased, is not only alive, but has been manufacturing evidence against Boganville. However, as it turns out, Boganville was indeed conducting secret negotiations with a pacifist faction of the Assembly, so that he could retire from Starfleet with honors. At Cumberland's request, Kaye buries the report. 2272 Stardate 7202.15 Commodore Jake Caffey and Lieutenant Commander Dameia Collins are married in the Chapel at Starfleet Academy. Biography of Jake Caffey. "Methuselah's Child, Part I." Stardate 7204.16. Responding to a distress call, the Hannibal finds an independent Federation trading vessel, SS Edmund Fitzgerald, under attack from an unidentified alien ship. Although the Hannibal sustains damage from the heavily-armed intruder, they are able to run it off with some assistance from the Fitzgerald. Investigation reveals that the intruder vessel apparently came from the Dagoda, a civilization that at this time is not known to possess warp flight capability. Even more astounding is the revelation that the captain of the Fitzgerald, who calls himself Cassius Flagg, is apparently a quasi-immortal human who has lived for over six centuries. Flagg, although reluctant to divulge any information regarding his attackers, warns that the Dagoda have indeed been receiving technological assistance, from a group of extra-dimensional humans that Flagg calls "The Revisionists." These are apparently a splinter group of the same augmented humans such as Gary Seven and Harry Steen (with whom Flagg, under the name of Samuel Makin, was associated in the twentieth century), with a different agenda than those that have been encountered before. Essentially, the Revisionists are planning to reshape the future of the Alpha Quadrant. Captain Cumberland and the crew of the Hannibal, assisted by Flagg, are able to thwart the Revisionists' plans for the time being. Cumberland promises Flagg that he will not reveal his quasi-immortal nature, nor that Lt. Kiara DaKar, a Trill officer on board the Hannibal, is actually one of the few Trill encountered by Starfleet personnel to have a symbiont implanted within. It's a given that Cumberland would keep mum about Flagg AKA Ulysses Murdock's true nature. On the other hand, DaKar's true nature being kept secret is conjecture; however, it would seem likely that the Trill civilization would, at this time, have reservations about the Federation finding out about "people harboring parasites." Given some of the humanistic (or humanocentric) attitudes we have seen in Star Trek: The Original Series, especially "This Side of Paradise", this is not an unrealistic reservation. Even by the mid-twenty-fourth century, the dual nature of (some) Trills might not be common knowledge, hence Dr. Crusher's ignorance of Odan's true nature in "The Host" [TOS]. Cassius Flagg and Kiara DaKar promise to meet each other in a few months' time when she is on leave. Over the next several years, they will carry on an affair that will have repercussions almost a century later. It has not been established exactly how long Flagg and DaKar carried their relationship. We can assume it was the better part of a century before "they" were reunited in "Methuselah's Child, Part II." "The Lost Command." The Intrepid II finds the Herschel class MS Olympus Mons has emerged in the Rigel system. The Olympus Mons was thought lost in a dark matter depression outside the orbit of Pluto while on a rescue mission in 2153. The crew of the Intrepid II determines that the ship actually fell into a wormhole that damaged its warp drive and structural integrity field, killing everyone on board. This is the first observable indication that wormholes could actually let a ship enter and escape, mostly in one piece. The first stable wormhole would be discovered in the Alpha Quadrant in the Bajor system in the late 24th century ("The Emissary.") Jake Caffey is promoted to Rear Admiral, and retains command of the U.S.S. Star League, for a few more years, until a severe spinal injury forces him to step down, and accept the position of Chief of Command Operations. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. 2273 "The Fallen Tower." While on shore leave on Federation planet Arianus, Commander Francisco Cumberland encounters a man who has been fatally wounded. The man has been searching for Cumberland, and utters the cryptic phrase "Remember the fallen tower; the chemist's rainbow bird holds the key." Sometime after the man's death, Cumberland remembers the story that his late grandmother had told him about the near-disaster at the 2196 Babel Conference. Eventually, he tracks down the rainbow bird that was given to his grandparents as a wedding gift. He also discovers that his grandfather had used the bird as a hiding place for a type of biomemetic gel that could be used to cure a large variety of diseases, or might be used to decimate whole populations. A century ago, a group of aliens had tried to steal the gel to convert it into a mass annihilation weapon. 2275 Serek is promoted to Rear Admiral and becomes Chief of Starship Operations. He transfers his family to San Francisco so he may raise them while he is at Headquarters. The U.S.S. Intrepid II is set for refit and will be rechristened U.S.S. Intrepid, in honor of the original Intrepid. Commander Aristotle G. Enfield is promoted to Captain and is given command of the Intrepid II. Commander T'Prana retires from Starfleet. "Serek" and "For The Good Of The Service" The U.S.S. Bellatrix returns to Earth after a very successful science mission. Captain Alexander Enfield is given command of the U.S.S. Oberth with a mission to chart class M planets for possible colonization. The Bellatrix is refit and returned to line duty. Service record of Alexander Enfield. Francisco Cumberland is promoted to the rank of Captain. Although he is offered command of the heavy cruiser Polaris, he decides to stay on the Hannibal. "Space Case" Captain Robert Cash assumes command of the U.S.S. Soyuz. This is the first ship in her class. Jake Caffey is promoted to Vice Admiral, and is made Chief of Command Operations. Captain Shenar is promoted to Commodore, and is given command of the U.S.S. Star League. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. 2277 "For the Good of the Service." Captain Aristotle Enfield, in command of the Starship Intrepid-A is set to patrol an area of disputed space near the Klingon neutral zone code named "The Slot." During the first patrol, three Klingon ships surround the Intrepid. They inform the Captain that he is in Klingon space and that he should leave immediately. Capt. Enfield reminds the Klingons that the Treaty of Axanar clearly states that some disputed areas of space will be ceded to the faction that can best develop those areas. The Klingon government has made no formal claim to The Slot area until now and that any claim they do have should be presented to the territorial arbiter. The Klingons disagree and, feeling outnumbered, Enfield agrees to let them escort the Intrepid-A out of the area. A fourth Klingon ship enters the zone coming out of cloak under the Intrepid. The de-cloaking ship raises their shields, interfering with the Intrepids. This causes a feedback in the Klingon's EPS system, and the ship explodes. The Intrepid barely escapes in the ensuing confusion, and gets back to base. Capt. Enfield is put through an investigative Special Court Marital and, while no wrongdoing is found, Starfleet command determines that for his own safety, he should be taken out of the line division. He is given command of Utopia Planetia, "for the good of the service." He will stay there for eleven years and will consult on the Martian terraforming project. The Klingons may call for the head of Capt. Enfield, therefore, "for his own safety" is an understatement. 2280 Commodore Theresa Enfield is made Commandant of the Starfleet Academy Command School, a post she will hold until she retires. Service record of Theresa Enfield. Inspector General Walter Kaye is appointed to the Starfleet Delegation to the Babel Conference. He will hold this post after his retirement in 2285. Service record of Walter Kaye. 2281 Jake Caffey is promoted to Admiral, and given the post of Deputy Chief in Command (CinC) of Starfleet. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. Serek is promoted to Vice Admiral and serves as Superintendent of Starfleet Academy. "Serek" "Starfall." Stardate 8105.17. The U.S.S. Hannibal engages several Romulan warbirds near the Neutral Zone. Although Captain Cumberland manages to disable or destroy the Romulan vessels, the Hannibal suffers catastrophic damage and is forced to land on a nearby Class M planet. A week later, the Star League arrives, where Captain Cumberland is placed in custody pending a court-martial for losing his ship. Eventually, Cumberland is cleared of the charges and is given command of the U.S.S. Miranda. 2282 U.S.S. Soyuz is lost with all hands. 2285 Captain Kiara DaKar assumes command of the Constellation class U.S.S. Hathaway. "The Six Of Me" Walter Kaye retires from Starfleet having gone as high in rank as he feels he can go. He is officially made Earth's Delegate to the Babel Conference in 2286 and is elected Senator from Earth to the UFP in 2288. Biography of Walter Kaye. 2286 Soshek and T'Prayne enter Starfleet Academy. Soshek goes to the Engineering track while T'Prayne takes the command track. "Serek.' Francisco Cumberland is promoted to commodore. While still nominally in command of the Miranda, he is often called to perform various solo missions, many of them covert in nature. "Space Case." 2289 Jake Caffey is promoted to Fleet Admiral, and is now the CinC of Starfleet. Biography and Service record of Jake Caffey. Serek is promoted to Admiral and serves as Deputy CinC under Fleet Admiral Jake Caffey. "Serek" Francisco Cumberland is promoted to Rear Admiral and is made Chief of Starship Operations. "Space Case." 2290 Soshek and T'Prayne graduate Starfleet Academy. Both graduate in the top 1% of their class. Ensign Soshek is assigned as an engineer under Captain Montgomery Scott on board the U.S.S Enterprise-A while Ensign T'Prayne is assigned as a Helmsman on board the U.S.S. Excelsior under Captain Sulu. "Serek." 2293 The third starship to bear the name Enterprise, NCC-1701-B, nears completion in orbital spacedock. Admiral Cumberland recommends Captain John Harriman for the position of commanding officer of the new vessel. Some time prior to the first act of Star Trek Generations. Subsequent to the incident on the Enterprise-B involving the energy ribbon, Admiral Cumberland files a formal protest to the Federation council for overriding his recommendation that the ship, being neither fully manned nor equipped, not leave spacedock. He is equally angry that Captain Harriman is taking the blame for James Kirk's death. Fleet Admiral Caffey backs up that protest, and eventually convinces the council that Captain Harriman could not be held responsible for Kirk's death, if they had heeded Cumberland's warning in the first place, and the ship would not have left the spacedock so ill-prepared for such an emergency. The council finally agreed, and has since removed the blame from Harriman's record. Starfleet also instituted a policy to help prevent such an incident from happening again, and thus approved the construction of several classes of ships to augment the fleet, in the hopes of avoiding being caught "off guard" in the future. Obviously, after "Star Trek: Generations." Biography of Jake Caffey. 2295 Kiara DaKar is promoted to Rear Admiral and is assigned as Chief of Command Operations. "The Six Of Me" 2296 Senator/Ambassador Walter James Kaye is elected President of the United Federation of Planets narrowly defeating the serving President (played ably by Kurtwood Smith in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) on a platform of exploring "The great uncharted mass of the galaxy." Kaye will serve for two terms and get several bills pushed through the UFP council to that effect. Historical accounts. Note: No, I didnt coin the phrase that Kaye uses as his platform, but he could've coined it, being one of the many officers from Peter David's "Age of Heroes." |
