| THE 6TH CENTURY THE 17TH CENTURY 1636 The man who would one day be known as Ulysses Samuel Murdock is born in an undisclosed location somewhere is Northern Europe. His father is Ahkarin, an immortal born more than 5,000 years before in Mesopotamia. He sires five children, only one of whom apparently inherits his unnatural longevity. Over the next seven centuries, Murdock will adopt numerous identities, none of which are anything of even minor historical note. Verbal account given by Murdock ("Methuselah's Child"). None of this is generally known, of course, even within Starfleet, but it is included here to give the reader some background on Murdock. THE 18TH CENTURY 1741 The future Ulysses Murdock adopts the identity of Bolivar Hayes, a privateer ship captain. Although he is primarily interested in pleasure and profit, he displays an uncommon morality for this age. Verbal account supplemented by limited historical records of Hayes. ("Journal") 1799 Lara Dakar, a Diplomat, is born on Trill. She is Dakar's first host. Verbal account given by Jodell Dakar. ("The Six of Me") THE 19TH CENTURY UNKNOWN A fleet of starships, escaping from a life-threatening cataclysm on their home world, land on the fourth planet of the Yalc system. These travelers decide to settle on the uninhabited planet, which has as its only sign of previous habitation a tall spire made of an unknown material. The new inhabitants are unaware that this tower serves as the core of the Kalandan transport system set in place millennia ago. Eventually, the Yalcans degenerate into a rather decadent, laissez-faire society. "About five hundred years" prior to "Tourist Season." 1897 The future Ulysses Murdock uses the name Osiris Nightshade, and having completed degrees in medicine and science, sets up a consulting practice in London, England. On occasion, he assists Scotland Yard with certain inquiries. Some months after beginning his practice, Professor Nightshade is called to consult on a case of a dockworker who is killed by persons and methods unknown. Nightshade is baffled by the almost liquefied body, but his investigation leads him to find a mysterious man with a yellow-green complexion, who seems to be in league with local anarchists in a plot to assassinate the British monarch Victoria. Two mysterious men, identifying themselves only as "Stanley" and "Oliver," assist Nightshade in foiling the plot, although "Mr. Green" disappears. These events are explained in "Moebius Loop." |
